First World Health Summit took place in Berlin
The first World Health Summit took place from October 14 – 18, 2009 in Berlin under the heading “The Evolution of Medicine”. International leaders from politics, industry and the scientific community met in Berlin to discuss urgent aspects of global health. The World Health Summit was also the first event in a year of celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the Charité hospital in 2010. more

EFPIA, the association of the pharmaceutical industry in Europe, has decided to respond to the publication of the final European Commission report into the pharmaceutical sector on July 8, 2009 by issuing a press release. A combination therapy using a drug from Bayer Schering Pharma has been added to the WHO's List of Essential Drugs.
According to the WHO, African sleeping sickness, also known as African trypanosomiasis, threatens almost 60 million people in sub-Saharan Africa alone.
