Chagas disease
Chagas, an infectious disease transmitted by the bite of the 'assassin bug', is widespread in Latin America. It kills about 14,000 people every year.
In the fight against this disease, Bayer HealthCare has been supplying the World Health Organization (WHO) with a life-saving drug containing the active ingredient nifurtimox, as well as additional financial resources, since 2002. The WHO has set itself the target of making the drug accessible in all Latin American countries affected by Chagas disease.
